Wondering about something I didn’t cover? Just ask me!
Dual Major.
I know at first, my two majors may sound a bit mismatched, but allow me to explain. I have known since 8th grade that I wanted to work in the entertainment industry, but I have always had a passion for helping people. At times I second-guessed that career path and considered being a lawyer or working at an NGO. I chose SU’s dual enrollment program because it allowed me to explore both careers. Instead of choosing one, it ultimately led me to realize I can combine the two. I used my Political Science major as a tool to learn as much as I could about people and our society with classes like Human Geography, Poverty Policy, Global Health, Human Rights, and a bunch more. I am determined to take what I learned, and am still learning every day, to create content that is socially conscious and influential.
Alpha Xi Delta Fraternity.
Membership Development Vice President is a long fancy title which just means that I was in charge of internal affairs. Think: event planner, relationship builder, peacekeeper. Some of the events I am most proud of include: holding a presentation by Ophelia’s Place, a local nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness, education and support for Eating Disorders; and organizing a Women’s Self Defense class with the University’s Professor and Kickboxing Coach extraordinaire.
Straighten Your Crown Mentoring Program.
SYC is an all women’s mentoring program at Syracuse University. As a mentor, I traveled to middle schools and afterschool programs in the local community of Syracuse to mentor young girls ranging in ages from Kindergarten to 8th grade. Programs centered around building self-confidence, leadership skills, and public speaking skills; they also included homework assistance and preparation for higher education.
